Send: Deep dive series

Theme: Decentering the Human

Subject: Deep Dive — How would a bird view this?

Practitioner,

This week:

#26 — NON-HUMAN PERSPECTIVE
"How would a bird view this?"

---

THE WARNING SIGN

You are thinking only from the human perspective.

The anthropocentrism is invisible to you because it is the water
you swim in. You assume human concerns are the concerns. Human
time is the time. Human scale is the scale.

---

THE PRACTICE

Adopt a non-human perspective.

How would a bird experience this situation?
A bee? A tree? A bacterium?

The exercise is not anthropomorphic projection.
It is decentering.

---

FROM THE BIRD'S PERSPECTIVE

Your urgent meeting is meaningless movement.
Your political crisis is just weather.
Your career anxiety is incomprehensible.

The bird sees:
• Predators and safety
• Food and hunger
• Mates and rivals
• The turning of seasons

Everything else is noise.

---

FROM THE TREE'S PERSPECTIVE

Your life is a season.
Your civilization is a few rings.
Your urgency is a brief warm spell.

The tree sees:
• Light and shadow
• Water and drought
• The slow accumulation of years
• The inevitable return of winter

---

THE HUMILITY OF DECENTERING

We are not the measure of all things.
We are one measure among many.

The humility of this recognition makes better thinkers.
We stop assuming our perspective is the perspective.
We start asking: What am I missing because I can only see as human?

---

THIS WEEK'S CHALLENGE

When faced with a complex situation this week, ask:

How would a bird view this?
How would a tree view this?
How would a wolf pack view this?

The answers will not solve your problem.
But they might reveal the boundaries of your thinking.

---

WEEKLY CONVERGENCE

Review:
• When did I assume the human perspective was the only one?
• What did the non-human perspective reveal?
• How can I maintain this decentering?

---

"From the bird's perspective, your urgent meeting is meaningless
movement. From the tree's perspective, your political crisis is
seasonal weather. The non-human view reveals the contingency of
human concerns."
