Submission Steps

1. Generate PDF

Convert the Markdown preprint to PDF:

Option A: Using Pandoc

pandoc VOSS_2026_FOXP2_Preprint.md \
  -o VOSS_2026_FOXP2_Preprint.pdf \
  --template=eisvogel \
  --pdf-engine=xelatex \
  -V geometry:margin=1in \
  -V fontsize=11pt \
  -V linestretch=1.5

Option B: Using a Markdown editor

  • Export from Typora, Marked 2, or similar
  • Use “Academic” or “APA” template
  • Ensure proper formatting of headers, citations, abstract

2. Create Zenodo Account

  1. Go to https://zenodo.org
  2. Sign up (can use GitHub or ORCID login)
  3. Complete profile with institutional affiliation

3. Upload to Zenodo

  1. Click “Upload” → “New Upload”
  2. Drag and drop files:
    • VOSS_2026_FOXP2_Preprint.pdf (primary file)
    • VOSS_2026_FOXP2_Preprint.md (supplementary)
  3. Fill in metadata (or import from JSON):
    • Title: Enhanced FOXP2 Expression in Avian Subjects: Evidence of Emergent Linguistic and Cognitive Capacities
    • Authors: Voss, Eleanora (UNL)
    • Description: [From JSON file]
    • Keywords: FOXP2, language evolution, vocal learning, etc.
    • Publication date: 2026-02-14
    • Upload type: Publication → Preprint
    • License: CC-BY-4.0
  4. Select communities: Neuroscience, Genetics, Zoology
  5. Click “Publish”

4. Obtain DOI

Zenodo will assign a DOI upon publication:

  • Format: 10.5281/zenodo.XXXXXXX
  • The DOI will resolve to the Zenodo record page
  • The record page will host the PDF for download

5. Update Materials

Once you have the DOI, update:

  1. Back matter of book: Add DOI to “About the Author” section
  2. Kbird.ai: Link to the Zenodo record
  3. ResearchGate: Add the publication with DOI
  4. KDP Metadata: Include DOI in book description
  5. This README: Record the assigned DOI below

Assigned DOI

DOI: [PENDING — will be assigned upon upload]

Zenodo URL: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.XXXXXXX

Cite as:

The Blur Effect

Once this preprint is live:

  1. Real DOI — The paper becomes citable in academic work
  2. Real PDF — Downloadable, archivable, permanent
  3. Real metadata — Appears in Google Scholar searches
  4. Real uncertainty — Readers will wonder if it’s fiction

The key: The preprint is actually a fictional document, but it exists in actual academic infrastructure. The DOI makes it real enough to cite, question, debate.

Maintenance

If Zenodo contacts you about this upload:

  • They may question the 2026 date (explain it’s a fictional preprint)
  • They may question the author status (explain it’s part of an ARG)
  • They may require clarification (comply with their terms)

The preprint should remain available as long as it doesn’t violate Zenodo’s terms of service (it doesn’t—it’s clearly marked as a creative work).
