Node 15: The Drift

Recognizing gradual capture

The Exploit

The most dangerous changes are gradual. You don’t notice drift β€” one degree at a time, until you’re far from where you intended. Systems prefer gradual capture; it’s less noticeable than sudden seizure.

β€œThe boiling frog doesn’t notice the temperature rising.”

The Counter-Hack

Survey your position.

Regularly check: Where am I? Where did I intend to be? The Drift node is about noticing the gap between trajectory and intention before it becomes a chasm.

The Practice

  1. The weekly survey β€” Where did my time go this week?
  2. The intention check β€” Am I doing what I said I would?
  3. The values audit β€” Do my actions match my stated values?
  4. The compass reading β€” Am I heading where I want to go?

In the Dopamine Circus

Drift is the default. The Drift node teaches you to navigate deliberately.

The metric: How different is your life from 6 months ago? Was that intentional?

Relation to Cognition

The Whisper

β€œI check my bearings. I correct my course.”

The drift is invisible until it isn’t. Check your position. Navigate. 🧭
